Interactive Digital Art and Kid-Friendly Highlights
The primary draw of TeamLab Forest Fukuoka is how thoroughly it engages young visitors through hands-on technology. The journey begins with the Catching and Collecting Forest, where children use a smartphone application to catch, study, and release virtual animals projected across dynamic digital landscapes.
Further along, the interactive coloring station lets children fill in physical paper templates that are scanned and instantly projected as living, animated creatures onto the main gallery wall. My 6-year-old niece loved following her artwork across the illuminated wall and spending time in the mirror room pushing around giant, glowing soft balls.
- Catch digital creatures on your smartphone in the Catching and Collecting Forest zone.
- Scan hand-colored paper designs to see them instantly join the animated wall projections.
- Play among oversized, light-up soft balls inside the spacious multi-mirror reflection room.
Young Kids Enjoy, But Elderly Travelers Face Physical Barriers
While children thrive in the high-energy Athletics Forest, the physical setup includes soft, uneven terrain that presents real obstacles for older adults. The route features cushioned fabric flooring and a suspended footbridge that sways underfoot, requiring constant balance. During our visit, my mother needed continuous physical support to navigate these soft mats and cross the bridge safely.
If traveling in a multi-generational group, consider splitting up briefly rather than forcing elderly members through the unstable floor sections. Because TeamLab Forest is located inside the BOSS E・ZO FUKUOKA complex, older relatives can easily relax over coffee or tea on the lower floors while adults take turns supervising kids inside the digital art exhibits.
- Prepare for soft fabric floors and swinging bridges that require direct physical assistance for elderly visitors.
- Split your group so older relatives can enjoy coffee on lower floors while kids explore the exhibits.

Personal photo and video recording are fully allowed throughout the venue, making it easy to capture family memories amidst the glowing light exhibits. However, flash photography, tripods, monopods, and selfie sticks are strictly prohibited to maintain safety in dark corridors.
The museum operates on a single one-way route that takes about 45 to 60 minutes to complete. Arriving around 5:00 PM allowed us to enjoy empty room sections and loop back to re-experience our child's favorite interactive displays.
